The varsity girls soccer team had a successful regular season, finishing with a 10-5-2 overall record and third place in the WCAC. Eight players earned all conference honors, showcasing the all-around strength of this O’Connell team. Although they fell short of the conference championship, the girls knew they still had what it took to capture the state title once again.

Despite losing in the WCAC playoffs, the team won their second consecutive state championship November 10, 2022. O’Connell played top-ranked Potomac School, whom they played in last season’s finals, to win their first ever state championship. After an incredible team performance, the final score was 2-0 O’Connell. Seniors Sophie Viscovich (Washington University in St. Louis commit) and Sara Turner scored goals in the first half.

Senior captain and University of Arkansas commit Phoebe Carver says that she “couldn’t be more proud of and grateful for this team for winning back-to-back state championships.” Phoebe played a big role this season as goalkeeper and made huge saves in the championship to ensure the back-to-back win.
