Fake National Honor Society Nearly Scams Members Through Expensive Membership Fees

Halloween this year gave more O’Connell students a jumpscare than trick-or-treaters walking past houses decked out in spooky decor.

On October 31, Mrs. Taylor, Moderator of the National Honor Society, notified members of the National Honor Society that some members have been receiving emails from other groups that don similar organization names to the real Bishop O’Connell-affiliated National Honor Society website, warning that these emails were fake organizations looking to obtain funds from unsuspecting members through so-called “membership tiers” with prices ranging from $65 to nearly $300. Examples of non-Bishop O’Connell-National Honor Society websites include https://www.nshss.org/ and https://www.honorsociety.org/.

The legitimate National Honor Society website will come from Mrs. Taylor through students’ Bishop O’Connell emails. If you are a member of the National Honor Society, all legitimate requests will come from Mrs. Taylor, and every member should have already paid the required amount to accept membership. Any “Honor Society” email offering a paid membership is not associated with Bishop O’Connell, and student information is only given out to the parents of National Honor Society members.

If an email you receive is not affiliated with Bishop O’Connell and the legitimate National Honor Society: delete, delete, delete.
